Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a minimally-invasive procedure used to renew overall skin tone and texture. It can improve the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scarring and other skin-related concerns and conditions. The procedure uses a special applicator with an abrasive surface to gently sand away the thick outer layer of the skin to rejuvenate it.

How is it performed?

  • Microdermabrasion is an outpatient procedure that usually takes about one hour and does not require the use of a numbing agent.
  • The patient is seated in a reclining chair and the dermatologist uses a handheld device to gently sand away the outer layer of skin in the targeted areas.
  • Diamond-tip handpiece: A diamond-tip handpiece is designed to gently exfoliate dead cells in the skin. At the same time, it will suction it off immediately.
  • Crystal microdermabrasion: This method uses a crystal-emitting handpiece to gently spray fine crystals – either aluminum oxide or sodium bicarbonate – to rub away the outer layers of the skin.
  • At the end of the treatment, a moisturiser is applied to the skin.
