Microneedling

Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure that is used to treat skin concerns via collagen production. This treatment may help reduce the appearance of acne scars and stretch marks. It is also used in certain anti-aging procedures, such as eyelid surgery and sun spots. Microneedling works by encouraging the skin to make more collagen, a protein in the body. It’s normal for the skin to lose collagen during ageing. The pricking encourages the skin to make new tissue and this results in more collagen production to help make the skin firmer.

How is it performed?

  • Before getting started, your doctor will use a topical anesthetic to reduce the chances of pain. This is done about an hour before your treatment.
  • During the procedure, the dermatologist makes small pricks under the skin with a pen-like tool.
  • The tool is moved evenly across the skin so that the new skin that is rejuvenated will be even too.
  • The dermatologist may apply a coating of serum on the treated area after the procedure.
  • The procedure lasts for a couple of hours and the patient can return home after the procedure.
