Mahyeldin Aya Mohamed Abdelrahem

Meet little Mahyeldin Aya Mohamed Abdelrahem. She’s a 9-month-old baby who is here, at MGM Healthcare, Chennai, with her mother, all the way from Sudan. Aya was flown in from Sudan to MGM and was received in the Emergency Room with a saturation of around 50%. She quickly desaturated to 30% and had to be rushed to the Paediatric ICU for stabilisation. After an emergency echocardiogram and pulmonary angiogram were performed, little Aya was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot. The medical team, led by Dr Ganapathy Subramaniam, Senior Consultant, Paediatric Cardiac Surgery, along with Paediatric and Adult Structural Interventional Cardiologists Dr Ramya Shri C and Dr Rajesh Kumar and Cardiac Surgeon Dr Pradeep, assessed the baby and suggested an emergency BT Shunt surgery as a temporary solution to stabilise her. Once the heart grows and becomes a little bigger, a more permanent solution will sought.

“From accompanying us to the hospital, providing us with a clean and comfortable hospital room, taking care of all our travel documents and COVID tests and, above all, giving the best treatment for my baby Aya and for bringing her to a normal and stabilised condition, I thank MGM Healthcare from the bottom of my heart. All the doctors, nurses and staffs from MGM were courteous and looked after me and my baby throughout the surgery process. I extend my heartfelt thank to Dr Ganapathy Subramaniam and Dr Suresh Rao KG for successfully completing the procedure. I will bring my baby back after 2 years to do an open heart surgery to MGM Healthcare and I have the utmost confidence that my baby will be as normal and safe after the surgery” – Baby Aya’s Mother.
