Cardiogenic shock is a life threatening condition where the heart suddenly stops pumping enough oxygen-rich blood to the body. This causes the patient to lose consciousness and faint.
Dr Ravi Kumar R, Senior Consultant & Associate Clinical Lead, Cardiology & Heart Failure Program, MGM Healthcare, talks about the seriousness of cardiogenic shock and how timely treatment is essential for the patient to survive. He says that though there are various injections and also defibrillation for the heart rhythm, there is only one curative treatment available, which is the Impella heart pump, also known as the implantable cardiac pump.
These pumps have found a lot of use in instant resuscitation and revival of the patient as they can be deployed quickly, in a matter of 15 minutes and starts working instantly!
These pumps were only recently introduced in India and MGM is one of the few healthcare organisations with a pedigree of experience with this device, in South India. We strive to provide the best patient care by adopting new technology-based treatment options. Our doctors and medical staff are well experienced and are dedicated to provide their expertise on the best treatment options for better recovery. We aspire to keep doing more, better.
