When you are ready to be discharged, a nursing staff will go over any instructions on diet, medicine, and care of your incision. You will be clearly told what things or activities you should avoid and for how long. You will also be told how to get in touch with the hospital if you have any problems such as fever, infection, bleeding, acute pain, etc. After completing the discharge formalities, you can go home. Please ensure that there is someone to drive you back home safely. If you have had major inpatient surgery, it will most likely take a month or more before you are ready to resume your normal schedule. Minor operations require less recovery time, but you may need to cut back on certain activities for a while.
