Sameera, a 46-year-old resident of Kerala, experienced severe abdominal pain and sought medical attention at a hospital in Kerala. The diagnosis revealed intestinal ischemia and partial gangrene in the large intestine. Medical professionals at the hospital removed the infected sections and treated her for short gut syndrome, a rare malabsorption disorder that can hinder the absorption of essential nutrients from food.
Due to the persistent nature of her condition, Sameera sought a second opinion at MGM Healthcare, Chennai. Upon examining her deteriorating health, Dr. Anil Vaidya, the Director and Senior Consultant, Department of Multi-visceral and Abdominal Organ Transplant, along with Dr. Dinesh Babu, Senior Consultant, Department of Multi-visceral and Abdominal Organ Transplant, and their team suggested pursuing a small bowel transplant. They successfully performed the transplant using an organ from a deceased donor that was airlifted from Bengaluru. Sameera has now recovered and is returning to her normal routine.
Under the guidance of Dr. Anil Vaidya, an expert in pancreatic, intestinal, and multi-visceral transplants, MGM Healthcare offers a comprehensive clinical program for patients with organ-related issues.
