COVID, Pulmonary edema and Chronic Renal failure

Dr Derek D’Souza is a practising doctor and surgeon for almost 45 years. On 13th August 2021 the doctor suffered an acute attack of pulmonary oedema. He has been diabetic and hypertensive for over 30 years. As a result of this, the doctor also developed chronic renal failure and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. He then developed pulmonary oedema and had a severe coughing and could not breathe. He was also tested for COVID, which came back positive.

As he was unhappy with the treatment and the services provided by the hospital at which he works, Dr Derek decided to seek the services of an expert. He met with Dr Georgi Abraham, Senior Consultant, Department of Nephrology at MGM Healthcare, and explained his medical history and current condition to him.

As he was identified as COVID positive, he was immediately admitted to the COVID ICU where he was further examined by Dr Georgi Abraham. A repeat RT-PCR test showed that he was negative for COVID. Dr Derek was started on packed cell blood and by day three, he feeling much better.

He needed dialysis and so a catheter was inserted. Unfortunately, the catheter that had been inserted had picked up an infection, so the decision was made to insert a Permacath. This was done by Dr Nagarajan under local anaesthesia. “It took just 15 minutes and was absolutely painless,” says Dr Derek. He has been recovering well since. He expresses his profound gratitude to everyone at the hospital who had been a part of his treatment process and thanks the hospital wholeheartedly for bringing him back to his old self.

We, at MGM Healthcare, are extremely happy to send Dr Derek D’Souza and his family home hale and healthy after their difficult journey.
