MGM Healthcare, a 400-bedded quaternary care hospital in the heart of Chennai city, proudly introduces its Institute of Liver Diseases, Liver Transplantation and HPB Surgery. Spearheaded by one of India’s leading liver transplant surgeons Dr Thiagarajan Srinivasan as its Director, the institute has been set-up with the vision to utilise the latest in technology, innovation and medical protocols to treat diseases of the liver, pancreas and biliary system.

Our comprehensive program offers a range of preventive, medical, interventional, and surgical treatments for hepatopancreatic biliary conditions, including end-stage chronic liver failure. For patients who have shown no response to other treatments, liver transplantation, also known as hepatic transplantation, may be recommended. This procedure can be performed using a portion of the liver from a living donor or from a deceased organ donor.

In addition to liver transplants, our unit also specializes in combined transplantations, such as liver and kidney or liver and heart. Our highly experienced team of hepatologists and transplant surgeons follows the latest protocols and uses advanced technology to manage and treat any disease or condition of the hepato-pancreatic-biliary system. Our goal is to greatly improve our patients’ quality of life.

The Director of the Institute of Liver Transplant & HPB Surgery, Dr Thiagarajan S is a world renowned HPB and liver transplant surgeon who has an experience of 15 years in this field. This Thanjavur Medical College and PGI Chandigarh alumnus has a personal experience of more than 1,700 liver transplants and he has a cumulative experience of more than 3,500 liver transplants (both living and deceased donor as well as paediatric liver transplants) and 1,000 advanced complex open and laparoscopic hepatopancreaticobiliary surgeries.

A Consultant in the Institute of Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery, Dr Srikanth Thummala comes with experience in performing both adult and paediatric liver transplantations and complex hepatobiliary cases. He has performed many advanced laparoscopic procedures and assisted in many laparoscopic donor hepatectomies.

Dr. Vigneshwaran Kasi is a highly accomplished Anaesthesiologist with over 25 years of experience in anaesthesia, including 8 years of practice in the United Kingdom. He holds an MBBS from Tirunelveli Medical College, DA from Madurai Medical College, FRCA from the Royal College of Anaesthetists, London, and a Fellowship in Liver Transplant Anaesthesia from King’s College Hospital, London
