Pain Management Services
When most people hear the term ‘pain management’, they immediately connect it to palliative care for cancer patients with terminal illness. But pain management has more applications than that. Back pain, arthritis, headaches — almost any type of pain can be treated non-surgically. At the Centre for Advanced Pain Management at MGM Healthcare, we work closely with a multidisciplinary team of doctors to assess and treat your pain holistically.
“No pain, no gain! Without pain, there would be no suffering; without suffering, we would never learn from our mistakes”
Don’t you just hate it when people give you unsolicited advice when you are in pain? What they don’t realise is that the pain they are referring to is the emotional kind. But what if your pain is the physical kind? Who do you turn to then? We know just the people!
At MGM Healthcare, our Centre for Advanced Pain Management, headed by the highly experienced Dr R Madhan Kumar (Senior Consultant –Interventional Pain Medicine), offers to treat your pain with the most advanced, non-surgical treatment options (with state-of-the-art robotic guidance technology) in a supportive and compassionate environment.
So, what is pain?
In a nutshell, pain is the way your brain interprets information about a particular sensation that your body is experiencing. This information or ‘signal’ is sent via sensory nerves to your brain and it interprets these signals as physical pain.
Acute or chronic - name your pain
Acute pain is of short duration, usually the result of an injury, illness or surgery and includes acute injuries, post-operative pain and post-traumatic pain.
Chronic pain, on the other hand, is an ongoing condition. Back and neck pain, headaches, neuropathic pain (as a result of nerve injury), musculoskeletal pain, pain disorders and illness-related pain — these fall under chronic pain. You may be referred to a Pain Management Centre if your chronic pain condition has not responded to conventional therapies.
